Today, Jessica Mariana was particularly excited. It was her 16th birthday. And naturally, for any girl, her Sweet Sixteenth was considered very important. Jessica had been imagining what her 16th birthday would be like for years. Well, she hadn't considered she'd be an anthro rabbit at the time, but it was actually adding more to her experience. While she wasn't double-dosed yet, she was definitely a lot closer to her full womanly figure.
Some kids would find having to go to school on their birthday onerous, but Jessica was looking forward to it. She was certainly well-known enough that everyone would be wishing her a happy birthday today. Jessica wasn't really expecting a lot of presents at school. She didn't even really expect anything from Sophie right then, though the muffin she got was thoughtful. Jessica had her expectations pinned for after school, when she'll get to celebrate at home. But the best part was waiting for her right after school ended.
Jessica raced to her dad's car as soon as she was out the door. "Is it ready? Is it ready?" she asked excitedly.
"Hold your horses, eager beaver," said her dad, "It's not going to expire any time soon."
Jessica took her seat in her dad's car and waited for the long ride. She started tapping her foot, a habit she had when she was human and only became more prominent as a rabbit. It tended to annoy people, particularly uplifted rabbits who thought she was giving 'false alarms'. But Jessica just couldn't hold in her excitement.
Eventually, they arrived at the Volkswagen dealership in Las Vegas. At that point, Jessica's leg was practically vibrating. Once her dad's car was parked, it wouldn't be much of an overstatement to say that Jessica bounced out. Presently, the car salesman was out to greet them. "Hi there, can I help you?" he asked, as if he saw bunny girls every other day.
"Yes, I'm Peter Mariana and this is my daughter, Jessica. We're here to pick up the special order I made," said Jessica's dad.
"Oh, of course. I thought you sounded familiar and everyone knows your daughter," said the salesman, "Follow me, please."
It took considerable effort from Jessica not to hop, but she was really excited. And she couldn't stop herself from letting out a squeal of delight when she saw her new car. It was a brand new Volkswagen Beetle with a bright emerald green paint job and a convertible roof. It was certainly a lot better than the first cars that most teenagers got.
"Now, this model doesn't have the particular modifications that are coming for Animalian conveniences," said the salesman, "You don't require anything more, do you?"
Jessica dragged herself out of her euphoria and said, "Well, not really. I'm not going to get any taller than humans do and my legs can operate the pedals without problems. I don't really have a big tail so I shouldn't have a problem with the seats. The only inconvenience would be my ears, but I can flatten them while I'm driving."
"With the convertible top, that shouldn't be a problem," said the salesman, "And of course, you'll have the latest radio installed." Most of the rest was a bunch of technical bore, but Jessica was really excited to have her own car.
Driving it back home wasn't quite as exciting. While she was old enough to be a student driver and could take her driver's ed exam, she still couldn't drive her Beetle solo. But having her dad in the passenger seat wasn't so bad. She still wished she could put this car through its speeds, but her dad insisted she demonstrate her adherence to road safety.
But it was still worth it to drive her car over to her house, where all her friends were waiting outside of her. As expected, there was quite a lot of squealing at the sight of the car. As soon as Jessica stepped out, her friends swarmed her. "Oh, I am so jealous," said Sarah, "I can't believe you get to drive your own car."
"Yeah, I can't fit into cars so easily," said Abby, though not sounding bitter about it.
"Well, the new models for bigger Animalians should be out before long," said Malice, "At least this one is a convertible."
"You think I could take it for a spin sometime?" asked Sophie. She was also in driver's ed, though getting a driver's license for her was more for the convenience of having a legal ID. Considering she's going to be a pterodactyl by the start of summer, driving would be redundant afterwards. But until then, she wouldn't want to miss out on the experience.
"Well, not immediately," said Mr. Mariana, "I'll need to be heading back to pick up my car. But I'm sure you'll get your chance to take a ride." With that, he and Mrs. Mariana climbed into the Beetle and drove off.
"I hope they don't take too long," said Roger, "I'm hungry for that birthday cake."
"Let me guess, it's carrot cake," said Sarah.
"Had to jump straight for that, didn't you?" asked Jessica, "I mean, yes it is. But did you have to assume like that?"
"Personally, I'd want to see what all Jessica's getting for presents," said Malice.
"Well, I bet it won't take nearly as long for her parents to get back," said Abby, "Especially with some episode-binging to pass the time." Jessica headed into her house with the rest of her friends. While her being able to use her new car was limited at the time, this was definitely shaping up to be one of her best birthdays yet.
