Shaggy moved immediately to follow Dad's instructions, but Jared barked in protest as he saw his former body posed to restrict his movements by fastening him to the lead in the backyard.
"What are you doing?" Jared objected with more barking. "We've got to get to the dump and look for that collar."
"You heard Master," Shaggy said, shaking his head.
"He's not your Master!" Jared barked. "He's your dad...well, he is my dad... your dad for now, I guess."
"I have to obey him," Shaggy explained.
Jared heard the snap of his collar being attached to the lead. "Wait!" Jared barked. "You can't do this!"
"Sorry," Shaggy said. "I must."
Jared watched his former body walk away quickly to join dad inside the house.
"Wait! Come back here!" Jared barked.
He was ignored. Shaggy no longer needed to obey him.
Jared whimpered and whined in a state of near panic, testing the strength of the lead by tugging against its curtailment of his mobility, all to no avail. He imagined the collar being buried beneath tons of rotting garbage and knew with sickening certainty that without it he and Shaggy would remain stuck in each other's bodies.
