Pushing your own problems aside, you focused on Tina’s dilemma. She was innocent, caught in a trap she had nothing to do with. It would be wrong to leave her to who-knew-what fate Frederic had in store for you. While it might be foolhardy, you would never forgive yourself if you did nothing.
So, running to Tina’s room, you opened the window. Slipping off your dress, you folded it up. Smaller and smaller, you kept folding it until it rested neatly in your palm. A wonder of elf textiles, it was certainly a must-have for a shape-shifter like yourself. Tying it with one of your hair ribbons, you wound it around your ankle. With that, you called up your magic and turned yourself into a hawk. With your beak, you wove the ribbon through your talons for more security before leaping up to the sill.
With a beat of your wide wings, you shot out into the sky. Powerful muscles pumped your wings faster to gain more elevation. Soon, you caught an updraft and rode it high into the atmosphere. The city plunged away beneath you, becoming a wide expanse of colorful shapes with numerous vehicles traveling between them like ants. Using your sharp avian eyes, you located the apartment building and began to scan the streets leading from it.
Thankfully, while unfamiliar with most of the details, you still remembered what Fredieric’s car looked like, and you concentrated on spotting it amongst the veritable maze of the city.
