Meanwhile in Seattle, Ton Herald was hard at work on the police department report that his editor had assigned him. There was a fair amount of pressure to make sure that this article was perfect, as this article could determine whether Tom got to start working on the political articles in the newspaper or remained working on the sports article.
Tom definitely didn't want the latter to happen, and according to the red-haired employee that he spoke to earlier in the morning, neither did a good chunk of the sports section readers.
Currently, Tom was looking at the trend in crimes that had happened so far this year in Seattle. It was November, so the year was beginning to come to a close. From the trends he'd been viewing, it appeared that there had been at least 3,400 crimes in Seattle in January alone, before the number of crimes dropped to 2,990 in February. This would be short lived, as the number of crimes went back up in March, and since then, it had been increasing or decreasing by about 10 to 100 depending on the month.
At the rate that crimes were increasing each month, Tom guessed that there would be at least 41,000 reported crimes by the end of 2015. While the guess was about 3,000 crimes smaller than the number of reported crimes from 2014, which was roughly 44,000, it was still quite alarming to see how many crimes had been committed by people in Seattle.
