"Hello Mr. Jeff Walker. How are you?"
"Who the hell are you?" I growled in fear. Who was that guy? And how did he know my name?
"You may call me Smith. Agent Smith. I’ am from the Chronivac Company, so to speak, and I would like to have a word with you..."
The man, that was standing in front of me was strange, to say the least. He was wearing sunglasses, even in this room, clothed all in black. He actually looked like some character out of MIB or the Matrix... wait... Matrix? Wasn’t one guy there called Smith?
"What... what do you want? I don't have the device here. I ran into some trouble at home and a friend of mine is on his way to get it."
"Oh, we already know that, Mr. Walker, your friend Sean is already in our custody so please make no trouble and come with me now.”
“WHAT?” I nearly shouted, my mind slightly spinning in confusion. “Why did you arrest him? He only was trying to help me!”
“Please, Mr. Walker, don’t make this harder, as it has to be this way. You don’t stand a chance against me at all.”
I looked a bit confused… I was surely 2 feed higher then this man and obviously stronger.
“NO!” I snarled, “I won’t do anything until you tell me what is going on here!”
With that, Smith sighed and suddenly kicked me in my gut, so hard that as the wind was instantly knocked out of me, I flew across the entire room and was only stopped by the wall on the other side.
“You were not meant to be in this form, so now come with me or I have to kill you.” Smith said, a note of irk obvious in his tone. I just lied on the floor, panting heavily, not believing what he did to me.
“How?” Was all I managed to say in my agony.
“Isn’t it obvious? Ask yourself; what was my name again? Yes, Mr. Walker, welcome to the Matrix… and you are an error in this world so I have to repair you… or to kill you. The choice is yours.”
When he finished his words I had managed to return to my feet. I stared at him, desperately trying to make sense of what he said.
“You… You’re telling me… I’m inside the Matrix and that... that you have to repair me?” My speech had gotten distraught, still dumbstruck by what he said earlier.
“Yes, is it really –that- so hard to believe? How else do you believe it would be possible to change a person with a simple emitter? That program you call Chronivac was programmed by a person I’ve been hunting for nearly 3 years now... it’s designed to show people what is possible here but so far nobody here had even the slightest idea that all here is nothing but an illusion. Who would believe it anyway? After the Last Restart of this world, because of people like the one who wrote Chronivac, we thought of a new strategy… We made a movie out of it… added a few things… left a few things aside and there it was… the science fiction movie called the Matrix… would you have believed that it was real? No? Well, so do almost all the others… Only a few believe that this movie was telling the truth and only a handful of people made it out of the Matrix so far. But that isn’t of your concern anymore.”
“Why are you telling me this?” I was afraid of the answer…
“Isn’t that obvious?” Smith shook his head, dismayed at my lack of knowledge. “I have decided to kill you … reprogramming people is very quite difficult, or, as you would say, a pain in the ass. And besides, you’re not worth my time. Good bye, Mr. Walker.” And with that he withdrew his gun and cocked it, his aim unwavering from my forehead.
But, then I saw something strange… the door to the room opened again and somebody else came in. What shocked me was that wasn’t the way out of the room.. it was a way to a passage with many doors…he took no time to introduce himself. He drew his weapon, a submachine gun, and before Smith could turn around, made mincemeat out of his carcass. He told me that if I wanted to life I should follow. While I was running in the general direction of my lifesaver, I glanced back one last time at Agent Smith. My eyes widened when I saw him, on his feet, changing into Sean!
“I’ am sorry for your friend,” My companion said, “but there was no way we could have saved him… come... we must go at once. My name is….”
