"Well..." said the doctor, scratching his head, not really knowing how to put it. "We found DNA samples from an animal we cannot clearly iddntify... although, the sample resembles that of..." He clears his throat, almost making it seem as if he was stalling. "fish DNA..."
Both I and Molly were speechless, mouths gaping open. "A... fish... as in... scales and fins... fish...?" Molly managed to expell from her mouth in a dumbfounded tone. She wasn't the only one who was of course... I could only shift my eyes from the doctor, to Molly, and then to the doctor again. "B-but hold on... how is that even possible? What does this a-all mean??" I stammered, knowing that the fear of what would happen to my Molly was only a fraction of what she herself was feeling. "I'm afraid that we don't know... we'll have to schedule regular check-ups to see if we can find anything to reverse the changes." The doctor replied in a defeated and melancholy tone. He described more in detail what might be in store for Molly, about special facilities, and seeking more "modern treatments" that would cost us our fortune... all we could do is nod as the words went into one ear and spilled out the other.
The ride home was filled with silence... neither I or Molly knew what to say, and Molly soon found herself dozing off. She fell asleep in a sideways position, that would make the little nub sticking out from under her shirt a little less uncomfortable. As I stopped the car I took a moment to look at her, only being able to shake my head in disbelief that soon, Molly's life would change... for better, or for worse...
