While Mark’s body was being moulded to suit the stables he would soon live in, the pursuit continued up ahead. After her treachery, Sophie had decided to double-back from Princess and Georgina, in the hope that the female officer was the woman’s main target. After all, horses couldn’t talk to the authorities.
The former-thief was proved correct as the woman rode away from her and towards the other two runaways.
By now Princess and Georgina had reached the perimeter fence. Princess was utterly exhausted and was using her last drops of energy to keep going. The pair desperately scanned the fence, looking for any sign of weakness. They could now hear the frantic yells of the woman, and the heavy hoof beats of her mount as they approached.
The woman smiled evilly as she closed in on her prey. Soon she would catch the pair of troublemakers and make them pay.
The runaways were getting desperate. There were no obvious gaps or weak points in the ugly construction. The officer was still trying to offer some encouragement to her companion but Princess couldn’t go any further. The beige horse took one last step before coming to a complete stop, now shaking on her legs and gasping for breath.
Now, with the woman almost upon them, their situation looked bleak.
