Greg's no idiot. Back when he'd first started apprenticing underneath Avad, he might've been so excited that he'd test things out on himself or on the animal specimens downstairs. That, however, was 3 years ago, and Greg's learned from experience that even the most foolproof experiments can have some undesired side effects. To keep the animals in the same state Avad left them, as well as save his own backside, Greg set up the perfect test subject to experiment with a week before Avad had even left.
An ad in the local paper stated:
SECRETARY POSITION AT MAGIC SHOP
Decent pay, flexible hours, interesting atmosphere. It's a magical place to be!
Avad's Mysterium, Friday at 5pm
Sure, there's always the possibility that no one shows up, but Greg feels confident that the ad will spark the interest of at least one curious individual. Plus, by luring a person into the shop with the prospect of a future job position, it keeps Greg from seeming like a creep prowling for prey. Which is kind of what he feels like... but this is the safest way after all. No emotions, no connection, and, best of all, no time restraints.
Greg knew that keeping the person here to experiment on would be the hardest part, but he planned for that. He reaches under the desk and slips on a glove, looking at it in the led lights of the shop. It looks like a regular blue latex glove, but Greg knew better. The glove is laced with a powerful persuasion spell, crafted over several weeks by Greg himself. When he shakes hands with the eager applicant, the spell will take affect and make them more susceptible and gullible. While the spell only works for about an hour, Greg just needs to touch the subject with the glove again to draw them back under. Easy peasy!
A smirk grows on Greg's face as he begins to think of what to experiment with first. The potions? Maybe something from the multitude of gadgets? Perhaps he can finally figure out what some of the jewelry does....
A ring of the doorbell wakes him from his scheming. The test subject is finally here!
