Joyce wasn’t sure where she should sit exactly. Her mind was going in a variety of directions and different strands of undecided reality were pulling at her. However something seemed to decide Frieda’s table was where she should be so she made her way towards it. She was almost there when someone tripped over an untied shoelace and she jolted backwards touching her ass against a table. An electric jolt went up her spine and she clamped her eyes shut and grit her teeth. Every grade she had in school suddenly shot to an astronomical high. She wavered a little and information and knowledge filled her mind and her afternoons became filled with extra curricular activities such as chess club and extra studying. Suddenly Susan wasn’t the smartest girl in class, Joyce was. She was an A grade student who also served as a prominent member of several sports teams. She was the whole package and as she opened her eyes she found herself automatically continuing to Frieda’s table and sitting down at it. She talked with her friend over lunch but found she had an amazing vocabulary and knew precisely what the time was despite not looking at the clock. She was now study focused and had plans for university. The dream job she wanted was still very vague but now she had every chance in the world to achieve any dream she wanted thanks to her supreme athletic ability and intelligence. She walked out of Lunch feeling prepared instead of nervous about her History test that afternoon.
It was the easiest thing. She was done before most of the class and knew every answer by just reading through the question once. Joyce finished and since she couldn’t pull out a phone the shifting reality gave her something to do. One of her erasers shuddered and expanded into a full novel she’s picked up and began to read with feverish vigour. Her brain required to enjoy reading and because of this Frieda also suddenly changed and gained a book under her desk. The two would often exchange books and geek out about them to each other.
History ended and Joyce was faced with the last block of the day. English Class. Because of her newfound talent for reading and her intellect she had no issue with their discussions on Macbeth and the readings of it. Joyce was incredibly pleased throughout the class and as it progressed she and Frieda answered more and more questions as they both became more and more adept at the material. The two of them took over the class and by the time it ended they were told to stop answering questions and sat in agitation while their classmates stupidly pretended to know answers to things. Finally the bell rang and both girls exited class discussing books and the play they’d just been talking about. They both walked out of the building onto the soccer field and stopped at the bleachers where they removed their books from their bags and without ceasing to talk began to study and work through problems. Their history was changing and now they’d been inseparable friends since kindergarten and Frieda gained some muscle mass and fitness as she too joined the sports teams Joyce was a pet of. They studied and studied as the bleachers began to fill and they were surrounded by people. Joyce and Frieda continues to talk until they were the smartest people in school and wavering on Thebes edge of being accepted to university early.
