You have no clue what is going on and you have no idea what to do. Heck seems harmless enough...but he is a talking cat...with, for all intents and purposes, a witch. On the other hand, if you stay here, you will be lost in the dark in the underground crypt of a cemetery. Neither option seems very inviting, but being around people, even if they are a witch and a weird talking cat, are still preferable to being stuck alone with the dead.
"Where are you taking me?" you ask as you get up slowly, brushing the dirt off your hands and pants. The witch, of course, ignores you and proceeds to walk forward into the darkness as though she could see everything.
"Master is taking you to her lair, of course, young miss" Heck grins up at you, as though his ominous words were perfectly natural. "If we left you on your own on this side, you'd probably get picked up by a slave trader or a mad mage or some sort. That is if you weren't eaten first."
"...a what?!" you squeak out as your voice raises an octave. "What do you mean, 'eaten'?"
"As I suspected, you've never been to this side, have you?" Heck squints at you, then sighs. "Very well, young miss, I had better explain a few things," Heck starts as he pads off following the witch, and you trot along behind. "Your world exists in parrallel to many other worlds, and sometimes gateways can be opened between two of them. It seems you have stumbled through one such gateway. There is no way to get back into your world as you are right now."
"What do you mean, no way back?" you stop involuntarily in shock. The witch had said that too, but you had thought she was just being mysterious and threatening. Did she really mean you were stuck here for good?
"Come along now, young miss," Heck calls back, and you run to catch up. "Don't worry, as I said, Master will ensure you will be all right on this side."
"But what is 'this side'? Where exactly am I?" you ask, slightly panicked. At that moment, it feels like a ripple passes through the deep darkness around the three of you. When you recover from the odd sensation of vertigo, you find that you, Heck, and the witch are standing outdoors somewhere, the moonlight glinting off trees and grass. Ahead of you, you see what you assume is the witch's destination.
