The doorbell rang, so Jake went to answer it. He figured that it would be his best friend Paul, from down the street, and he was right. They usually headed to school together. But as Jake opened the door, the world seemed to shudder for a moment, and then everything changed.
"Jake? Are you okay?" his friend asked.
He couldn't stop staring at Paul. One moment, his somewhat muscular friend was wearing a plain T-shirt, jeans, sneakers, his hair cut short. Then the next, Paul seemed to lose his musculature, looking quite thin, but that wasn't the shocking part. Paul was wearing a girl's pink top, a miniskirt, and heels! His hair was long and in a ponytail, and he was wearing earrings, and make-up! It's like he was trying to look like a girl, yet was still his normal male self, except for the lack of muscles, that was.
"Jake, snap out of it. We have to get to school."
"You mean, we have to get to Tom's house, right?" Sometimes, they stopped off at his friend Tom's house and all three headed to school together. Usually Tom drove himself, but today his car was in she shop.
"Tom? Jake, you know that Tom isn't in school anymore. After Claire had her baby, Tom was obligated to take care of it. As the father of the baby, he had no choice."
"What?" Jake asked, not understanding any of this.
Paul reached over and touched Jake's arm gently. Looking down at Paul's long painted nails, Jake yanked his arm away from him.
"Jake, what's wrong with you? What's got you so spooked?"
It was when he looked down at Paul's hand that Jake realized that Paul wasn't the only one who had changed. Jake was different too! He had no idea how he hadn't noticed until now, but he was dressed in a girl's bare-midriff T-shirt (with the words "Mommy's Little Prince" in glittery letters), a miniskirt, and heels. Reaching up to his head, he felt the earrings in his ears, and his long hair cascading down past his shoulders. And judging by Paul, he figured that he must have also had make-up on his face.
What the hell was happening?!
