Mark, who was 15 at the time, was in the supermarket to get some food for a get together with his school friends. As he walked out the store he had to go past the market, which was a weekly thing that always happened on Fridays. While he walked towards his car he realised that all they’d be doing is watching a movie, so he turned around to get a game. In the corner of his eye he saw a board game, the box the size of the pizza box he just bought. He decided to have a look. The seller was a mid 40s guy with a scruffy little beard. Mark realised that he only had 40 minutes before they all got there, so he thought he’d just buy it and rush home.
Mallory was a tall and skinny girl with bright red hair. She was also 15 like Mark.
Ryan was a muscular guy with blonde hair. He was the shortest in the group.
Finally was Riley, who was the second shortest. Her defining feature would be her weight, she was around 300 pounds. But was the oldest of them, being 16.
It’d been an hour of just talking before Mark opened the bag to get out some chocolate, but then saw the game. He pulled it out and Mallory asked, “what’s that??”
“It’s a game I saw when I went to the store, it was in the market,”
“Well how do you play,” said Ryan,
“I don’t know, let’s test it out.”
He opened the box and it was a wheel with some cards wrapped in plastic in the corner. “The game is played by placing one card in the centre of the wheel face down, spinning it and then whoever the arrow is closest to must choose option A or option B.”
“So what’s on the cards,” says Mallory as she looks at the top card. Without being able to read it, mark snatches the pile out of her hand and shuffles them, “It’s cheating if you know what’s gonna happen.”
Mark places the top card face down in the centre and spins the wheel. It lands on..
