Eric had sat there, stunned at the sight around him and the lingering memories of what he had been doing. He wasn't sure what to do.
"I have an idea..."
The words caught him off guard, as they seemed to be coming out of thin air. Eric wondered if he was going mad. Maybe that was an explanation.
"No. You are not mad, Eric."
"W..who are you?"
"Someone who wants to help you. Help you to see the truth."
"Truth?"
"Yes. For it will set you free...but only if you let it."
Eric shook his head, still unsure of all of this. The voice sensed his hesitation, and moved ahead.
"The truth is that you, and the young woman in the bathroom have both been cursed to become 'were breeders'. Your own sickening attraction to those of your own gender will now cause you both to transform into a stereotype of heterosexuality who will then spew hate at a fag or lesbian you come across. And whenever you insult them, you share the curse with them . And so it will go until there will be no of your kind left untouched by it. Unless, of course, you accept my offer...”
The truth of his situation horrified Eric, his memories of his other self only served to confirm what this voice was telling him. He wondered if he'd already cursed Pete. That despair made him open whatever this offer was...
"What is it?"
"Understand that this isn't a choice made lightly, but I can promise that it won't be in vain, and Pete will be safe if you accept it."
The voice neglected to mention that Pete was not in any danger, not after he'd become the happily engaged Peter who didn't even remember Eric anymore. It was better this way.
"He'll be safe? From this curse?"
"I swear it."
"Fine. What is it I have to do?"
The voice chuckled.
"Embrace the heterosexual who dwells within you. Reject this homosexual life you've been living and become Ric willingly and forever. It is the only way to protect Pete from the curse. You want that don't you?"
Eric was quiet, his indecision plain on his face. Deep inside his mind, he could almost hear Ric calling out to him. Could he do it? Could he become that homophobic gym jock forever?
"What is your choice?"
The voice asked the question, wondering how it would go this time. Would he make a different choice than the woman in the shower had? Or would he follow her path?
