Jared made the mistake of looking down at the road and saw the blur of asphalt zooming past at 75 miles per hour. Sure, it looked simple enough, but if he made the slightest mistake he could end up roadkill.
"Isn't there some way you could use your powers and just sort of transport me into the truck?"
"This isn't Star Trek," Raphael said.
"I don't want to leave you guys," Jared whimpered.
"We're touched," Birdy said, focusing on his driving, "but this is for your own good. We just need to play the ol' bait and switch to throw our pursuers off their game."
Jared recalled the allure of the hunt that had called to some side of his being that wasn't quite human or canine. If Raphael hadn't pulled him back...
