Instead of answering Kelvin's question, the boy in Kelvin's room posed a question of his own. "You ARE Kelvin Hobbes, aren't you? You were switched into Rick's body without warning, no idea how." Kelvin spluttered out an answer - "Yes, I'm... how do you know... and who..." The boy stuck out his hand in greeting. "I know, because it happened to me too. I'm Cindy." Kelvin's mind whirled as he shook the boy... girl... whatever's hand. "And how did you know I was Kelvin?" he asked. Cindy wiped her hand clean on the bedsheets as she replied "Well, because-" The door slammed open. "Steve here ended up in your body" she finished dryly.
Kelvin stared, stunned, at his own body as it took in the scene in the room. "So you got in" said Cindy. "Yeah" replied his body. "Found an open window downstairs when you get caught. So this is Kelvin?" "Yep" "Lucky bastard. That's a hell of an better body." Kelvin interrupted this exchange with a strangled yelp of "What the HELL is going on?!" Cindy turned to face him. "Look, as far as we can tell, someone's gone from Rick's body to your body to my body, leaving us all behind in the wrong ones. And now we've gotta deal with it. Listen, I was going out with Rick's brother. If they're still in my body, then they'd know it's you, but they can't sic Bob on you like they did on me in this body, so can you go find out what's going on?" Kelvin nodded and asked "But what about you two?" Cindy shrugged. "I guess we'll all just have to live each other's lives for the moment. Steve can stay here, I can go to his place, and you can go to Rick's. "Fine with me" answered Kelvin. That had pretty much been his plan anyway. They began to instruct each other on their lives, with Cindy telling Kelvin what she knew of Rick's. The discussion was ended, however, when they heard a door slam downstairs.
"Crap!" exclaimed Kelvin. "My parents are home! Steve, try to bluff through tonight and I'll see you tomorrow in school." He grabbed his bag and ran for the window with Cindy close on his heels and swung out onto the branch. "Good luck!" He dropped down through the tree recklessly, with confidence fueled by the inheritance of several times his normal strength. The two of them made their way to Rick's truck. Kelvin glanced back one last time, observing shadows moving around his room before the light switched out. "Goodbye" he muttered.
