"It'll be better if you just accept it. Those outside of the circus don't understand us. And writing in the dirt just looks like scribbles to them. And you better hope that an animal rights group doesn't cause trouble... At least this way we're allowed to see different parts of the world... we'd end up in the wild and be eaten by predators or in your case die of disease or be killed by a rival gorilla, or put in a zoo and have to look at the same enclosure for the rest of your life. So trust me when I say that it's better if you just accept things. Your fate was sealed the moment you set foot in the change, maybe the moment you talked with the driver, the way he speaks, it has a certain POWER."
James startled. It was the giraffe cow who had spoken, she looked at him calmly, passively, like she'd seen this sort of thing several times before.
"Y-you can talk?!" James realized that while he understood what he himself had said, the sounds that came out of his mouth didn't really sound human.
"Same way you can. And before you ask, the ones who weren't ever human can't speak, I've experimented. A lot. That's another thing that would make us a mess trying to live in the wild or with other animals of our species, we don't speak 'their' language, so we'd be screwed. Name is Claire by the way. This is my son Randy." She nuzzled the caff. She looked him in the eyes. "So it's better that you accept your fate. The good news is that you're not stuck with animal's lifespan, well, I guess that's good news depending on who you ask..."
"You can't be serious! This..." James wanted to say this couldn't be real, but it was happening, if this was all a delusion, then it didn't matter what he thought or not. "You can't expect me to just play along with people who just kidnapped me and ... CHANGED ME..."
"Wow, you're already past denial. Next comes fear, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance... I won't tell you work through them faster, they need to happen at their own pace. It doesn't matter if you were a Senator before, or a dishwasher, you might as well be dead from how you were before... Oh, and you'll find the enchantment prevents suicides, not that I approve anyway."
