Since Nat's encounter with Jenny her life had both literally and figuratively started the change: The first big one came after she got home where she confirmed that she did in fact need glasses so her mom took her to an optometrist to write her a prescription from there she ended up buying a simple pair of glasses with thin black rounded frames. Also the stutter she developed from yesterday's encounter very much remained but she did also start speaking a lot more intellectually as well.
But today she was here at the mall with her new friends ready to restart her life anew starting with a new wardrobe. Currently she was wearing nyan cat t-shirt and cargo shorts with a pair of red flat top sneakers.
"So how many dollars and cents do we have to work with daisy?" Nerma asked. Seeing how she reinvented her life she asked her friends to start calling her by her real name
"Honestly n...not m...much I h...have t...t...two 50 dollar b...b...bills, t...ten half d...dollars, t...ten q...quarter dolars, t...two t...t...ten cent c...coins and t...two f...f...five cent c...coins" Daisy said counting her change
"Well then off to the bargain shop we go" Jeanette said dragging Daisy to the store.
Within an hour Daisy had bought every ounce of novelty clothing most people would consider nerdy. For shirts she bought her usual cliche attire of button up shirts, khaki pants with built in suspenders and plaid shorts that needed a belt to be worn but she also bought several pairs of low-rise jeans and novelty t-shits including everything from Star Wars to Superheroes (DC and Marvel) to even a few joke t-shirts mocking her own nerdy nature.
As Diasy was crossing off the list of clothes she needed to buy (yes she made a list) she realized the only thing left on the list is the one thing she was avoiding the entire time: Underwear. She didn't even know why this one affected her so much it's just underwear and considering her new lifestyle anything she wore would probably end up getting ripped, exposed or wedged between her buttocks so why was this so frightening to her. Maybe it was because what she wore would define who she was as a nerd.
"Something wrong Daisey?" Connie asked alerting Daisy to look up from her list.
"I...I'm f...f...fine it's just....I don't know what underwear to buy" Daisy said whispering the last part
"What's that?" Nerma asked.
"I...I d...don't know w....w...what undergarments t...to b...buy" Daisy said hanging her head.
"What's Wong? Why is it hard?" Jeanette asked
"D...Does it m...matter I'll g...get b...bullied either w...way" Daisy said solemnly.
Jeanette walked towards Daisy and put her hands on her arms "Daisy look at me" she commanded to which Daisy complied "It's true we get mocked for how nerdy we are and the undergarments we wear are a prime trigger for that BUT I want you to stop seeing it as a bad thing and consider this: You now have the freedom to wear whatever you want and not worry about how people think of you especially us" Jeanette said.
Daisy simply soaked in Jeanette's words and suddenly everything made sense to her "Okay I get it" she said cracking a smile.
"Okay now I want you to do something for me" Jeanette said with a smile
"Okay what's that?" Daisy asked.
Jeanette placed to fingers on Daisy's eyelids "Close your eyes and think back to your childhood and what exactly stuck with you the most whether they be comics, cartoons anything at all and which ones stuck with you the most even today" she said in a soft tone
it only took a couple minutes for Daisy to open her eyes with a smile "I've got it" she said making a quick dash for the underwear
