Earlier that day, Dustin glanced out his window from where he had been sulking all last night. He remembered hearing the doorbell and his mother shouting Ty out of bed to answer it. Who would be visiting so early in the morning? Unfortunately, the angle from his upstairs window made it impossible to see who was at the door. Glancing up and down the street, he saw no unfamiliar cars or vehicles to clue him in as to the person’s identity.
Suddenly, a figure came into view, heading away towards the sidewalk. Even from the back, Dustin could tell it was a woman, and a gorgeous one at that. To his surprise, Ty appeared following behind her like a little dog. Wait, when did he get dressed? More importantly, who was this woman?
Dustin got up and rushed out of the house after them. Perhaps this had something to do with his foster brother’s new powers. If he could find out something useful, maybe he could undo the curse that Ty put on him.
By now, the two had made quite a bit of headway, but this allowed Dustin to trail them without being noticed. All through the town they went until they made their way to the beach. The place looked deserted at this time, and Ty and the woman went over to stand by the ocean undisturbed. Meanwhile, Dustin hid in some bushes and watched them.
To his amazement, the woman’s clothing vanished to be replaced by a seashell bikini. Before Dustin could admire her revealed beauty, things got even weirder as she sat down in the water and transformed into a mermaid! Flipping her tail, she beckoned Ty into the water, and the boy obeyed, shucking off his clothes and wading in up to his waist.
At this point, several things went through Dustin’s mind. First, this was magic, just like Ty’s, which only proved that all these events had to be connected. Second, didn’t mermaids drown people? He’d read that somewhere, he felt sure. Was she going to drown Ty!? As if to confirm his suspicions, his foster brother cried out and collapsed with a splash.
Without thinking, Dustin charged out of his hiding place towards his foster brother. He told himself he just needed Ty alive to change him back. Yeah, that was definitely it.
Meanwhile, Ty just floundered around desperately while the mermaid looked on. Any moment, he would go under, never to be seen again, and Dustin would be stuck as a wimp forever! With this thought spurring him on, Dustin leaped into the water, racing over to Ty. That’s when several things happened at once, and none of them good.
