Zack looked at the ring as he stood in the bathroom. It was a silver ring, and it had a blue gem--not a sapphire or a lapis lazuli or even a diamond, but some blue gem. For a minute, Zack thought it looked like some old game console or something. He was a bit reluctant to test the ring's unknown powers now, what with both his family and Luke's in the house. But Zack was sure that his older brothers would try to gyp him out of a turn after dinner. He wished that he had a twin--or more--so that he and his siblings could have majority rule over Mark and Max, and possibly even Luke.
As Zack stood in front of the bathroom mirror, he slipped the ring onto his right index finger. As soon as it was on, Zack turned his head back to the mirror and waited. After just three seconds, Zack's body widened to his left-hand side, clothes and all. Zack's arms did not change, nor did his head remain centered on his shoulders. Instead, Zack's head stayed were it was in comparison to his right shoulder, and something grew out of a second hole that had appeared in Zack's plain red shirt. After just three seconds with the ring on his finger, Zack had either gotten a second head or become one of two identical conjoined twins.
"Hey, dude!" Zack greeted his new head.
"Dude!" the second head replied.
Three more seconds after the greeting, the shared body and clothes widened to Zack's left-hand side again! A third head appeared, and now there were three heads all in a row across the widened shoulders.
"Duuude." said Zack and the second head to the third.
After just a few more seconds, the body and clothes widened yet again, and now there were four identical heads. There were no further changes after that--Zack theorized that since he wanted enough brothers to have majority over Mark, Max, and Luke, the ring only gave him three new brothers. Even if his new brothers only existed as long as Zack wore the ring, they decided to have some names. From their right-hand to their left, they were Zack, Mac, Jack, and Drac--the last one was the best they could think of at the time.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. All four heads shut their mouths at once--if it was any of the parents or Luke's little sister, it would be too risky if they heard four voices.
"Hey, Zack, are you okay in there?"
Zack recognized the voice as Luke's, and decided that it was okay to let him know. Zack unlocked the door, but did not open it just yet.
"Luke, are you alone?" Zack asked.
"Yeah, everyone else is still eating," Luke said in a confused tone.
Zack opened the door, and his eyes met Luke's--before Luke's eyes widened and got a good look at the wide body with four heads. Luke opened his mouth, prepared to ask what was going on, but then he caught sight of the ring on the body's finger. It did not take long for Luke to figure out what Zack did.
"I was afraid that you guys would go on experimenting and trick me out of a turn," Zack explained. "I just wanted to try one on just in case."
"Well, now I won't forget," Luke said. "This means you could try on the ring again after dinner."
Zack slipped the ring off his finger, and said goodbye as his three extra heads disappeared and his body changed back to normal. He slipped the ring into his pocket, and followed Luke back into the dining room to eat some dinner.
