As they headed downtown, Ally was getting more and more excited. Kyle was taking her outside, and she could just imagine all the smells and scents she would find. She was starting to get impatient though. She wanted to be outside now. She couldn't stand it any longer, and opened the window. The breeze felt wonderful, so she instinctively stuck her head out of the car, and let her tongue dangle out.
Kyle looked over at his sister. She was acting like a dog again. As exhilarating as that was, he didn't want any undue attention.
"Ally, put your head back in the car."
"Woof!" Ally responded. She quickly closed the window, but let her tongue pant for just a little longer. That had felt so good.
Kyle shivered. Had she just barked at him? He really hoped the changes were reversible, otherwise he would be in a lot of trouble.
Ally had also noticed the odd bark. She stopped panting for a second to think. Why had she done that? It felt like the right thing to do at the time, but now she was questioning it. Lost in their thoughts, the siblings were silent for the rest of the car trip.
Arriving in the inner city, Kyle pulled into a parking garage. The show wasn't starting until the evening, but there was always a chance that he could bump into the hypnotist beforehand. Even if they couldn't, Mr. Dormitabis was giving out signatures after the show, so hopefully they could talk then.
Still, that left a couple of hours before the show actually started. Kyle bought two tickets from the front desk, and started scoping out the building. Unfortunately, security was tight, so he couldn't find a way in. He was thinking about climbing a tree to check out a small window, when he realized Ally had vanished.
Meanwhile, Ally was sitting on a park bench. The park was right next to the theater, so she wasn't concerned about losing her brother. She concentrated on her phone, not wanting to think about her odd behavior.
"But mom..." A shrill whine interrupted her train of thought. A toddler was complaining to her mother.
"No buts. We need to head home before traffic gets too bad."
"But I don't wanna..." The little girl stomped her foot down, throwing a temper tantrum.
"Now you listen here. You need to be a Good Girl and behave yourself young lady."
The toddler pouted, but followed along after her mother.
Unfortunately, Ally heard those two magic words.
