Just as Mark and his best human friend turned best canine friend, Bryan, are walking towards the lobby, a young woman wearing a lab coat comes around the corner.
Reading papers off a clip board, Lisa, the vet technician, is not watching where she is going. But when hearing someone else in the hallways, she calls out.
Dr. Kennerson? That Bernese mountain dog bitch has gone into heat and is now chewing at the wire mesh of her pen." Not getting a reply, Lisa looks up from her click board. "Oh sorry. Thought you where the doctor, " she says, giving the boy and his dog an embarrassed smile.
Mark, having been taken by surprise, blinks wondering what to say to this enchanting woman. A crash sounds from the room with the two German Shepherds in it interrupts the boy’s thoughts before they have a chance to wonder. Lisa quickly dashes past him to check on the doctor in the other room.
Bryan, who is sniffing at the Lisa's shoes, is ignored for the moment. Now able to pick up the scents of many different bitches in heat, Bryan is having trouble focusing on what the two humans are saying and doing. Instead, his mind is automatically sorting out the odor of each dog smell that hangs upon the vet tech's shoes and pant legs.
