It was the first day of your sophomore year at Witch Academy High, and you and your best friend Julie are running late.
You’re both running down the busy street of Jarensvill knowing that if you miss the portal to school, you'll have to wait for the next year.
”Hop on!” Julie said while riding on her broomstick. You climb on the magical broom and you two flew downtown. This is breaking the first rule of magic, don't use it in the non-magic public. Last time someone used magic in public, thousands of our people died to the scared humans.
After raising the eyebrows of many pedestrians, Julie made a sharp right into an alleyway where a human sized hole was in the wall, but it was closing in.
”The portals closing! Go faster!” you demand. Luckily for the two of you, Julie’s parents bought the speeder 9000, which can increase the speed tenfold by inserting more magic power. Right as the hole was about to close, Julie increased her brooms speed from 5 mph to 40 mph, barely entering the portal.
The magic world is similar to our’s but you're allowed to perform the basic spells without getting in trouble. There are shops, restaurants, homes, and even schools. Most witches and wizards choose to stay in their homeworld in fear of being burned or drowned, but others decided to just pretend to be normal so their children could live normal lives. After years of peace with the humans, the magic world decided to open up their portals 8 times a year. Summer, spring, fall, and winter break opens every portal so students could visit family, but they have to get back to the portal by the end of the break.
The school district has the first 8 years of learning about simple stuff: math, reading, alchemy, and magic history. By the time people reach high school, they'll start to learn everything magical. Luckily for you and Julie, you were homeschooled in the magic arts by your parents. With Julie’s first spell at age of 4, and you flying a mop at age 3, your parents knew magic would be a breeze for you two.
That's enough backstory, lets get back to the main story.
By going so far you two entered the last portal for your school year, the only problem was that Julie didn't know how to stop the broom. Brooms only follow the flyer’s command, and not riders. Since she was still a beginner at flying, you only hoped that Julie read her manuals.
”How do you stop this thing Blake?!” there was no sign of the broom slowing down, so you two were going to be flying around the magic world unless someone did something. ”Julie you need to clear your mind of everything right now and just think of slow objects,” you suggest. ”I'm trying but nothing is working.” ”Ok don't let go of the broom.” You pull out your wand and start chanting a spell, ”Contrarium Nobis” you waved your wand, and swapped places, making you the driver.
Immediately, you slowed down the broom, came to a stop, and landed the broom. Next, you and Julie went straight to the school.
The only way to be a part of this school is to take their test. The test will show what magic skills you need improvement, and what you don't need to bother messing with. For yall, Julie needs to work on flying classes while you need to learn how to perform magic without a wand.
Now you may be thinking ”Don't most wizards/witches need wands?” and you were right if you lived in the 1600’s. After the discovery of wandless magic, we have been able to perform more powerful spells.
When you got to the school, you and Julie said your goodbye as you went to your classes.
