The Summer Animlian Martial Arts Showcase (or SAMAS for short) was one of the big features for Animalia's summer events. It was different from the A-BC and the UFC-A in that it wasn't a competition or tournament. Rather, it was more like a living display of the various martial arts from around the world. Though most of them were from eastern and southern Asia. From Japan, China, India, and several other countries, masters have been invited to come and demonstrate their honed skills from ancient times.
Of course, no one was planning on killing for this showcase. Instead of human bodies, the various deadly techniques will be used on cow and pig carcasses. It was certainly better than how the Japanese samurais tested the sharpness of their blades on condemned criminals. It was still a bit unnerving for cow and pig Animalians, but they weren't the ones watching most of these demonstrations. And of course, the chopped and crushed carcasses would go on to feed the many carnivores in Animalia.
Though it wasn't only Asian martial arts that were being showcased. There were various forms of martial arts around the world and there were a few masters who had been invited to SAMAS to show them. For instance, there was a team of specialists who had come from France to demonstrate both the kickboxing style of savate and the art of parkour. Parkour wasn't strictly a martial art in-and-of-itself, but it was still a very intense training regiment that took advantage of all surfaces. Watching the traceurs bound across the special obstacle course prepared for them was a very impressive sight. Even Animalians known for their agility, like cats, were impressed by the way the humans moved. It was hardly surprising that several Animalians wanted to take up parkour.
There were also more exotic and esoteric martial arts. There were a few masters who came up from Brazil to demonstrate capoeira, which was a mixture of dancing and fighting. A pair of masters came from South Agrica to show Nguni stick-fighting, which was more about showing dominance than for true conflict. There was even a New Zealander there to show how traditional Maori weapons were used in Mau Rakau.
Probably among the most central figures of the SAMAS were the Five Elements. The quintet has gained quite a bit of notoriety over the last few months, including their colony tour. They will be demonstrating their individual martial arts to show how effective they were combined with an Animalian body. They might not be full masters yet, it would take months more before they could truly call themselves masters. Even the newly-invented Firefox and Water Buffalo styles will need further refinement. But they were already showing themselves to be very promising warriors and everyone was anticipating their display.
