Kim looks at Kevin and emotionally finds herself being torn in two by her friend’s predicament. A part of her, she realizes with some shame wants to disbelieve what she’s seeing. As what she’s seeing must be clearly impossible. This is the real world, not some special effects laden movie where such transformations look possible. And then there is the other part of her that wants to oddly reassure her friend that everything is going to be okay despite the contrary. A part of her that oddly enough wants to reach out to her friend and give him a rub on his tummy or a fond scratch behind the ears. Without really thinking about it, she walks a little bit closer to him.
Kevin looks at her in turn, also feeling torn in two. He’s feeling very afraid because of what’s happening to him since he touched Lady. He is also feeling afraid for Kim because what happened to him could easily happen to her. And yet...and yet there is a part of him that wants her to come over to him and helpfully reassure him that everything will be all right. He watches her come closer and the fear returns.
“Kim... Kim, what are you doing? Stay away!” He tells her with another slight whine to his voice.
“I can’t, Kevin, I want to help you.” She tells him, feeling less afraid for herself and strangely more concerned for his well being.
He feels an itch creeping its way across his chest as Kim takes another step closer. He scratches at it with one hand, and feels a pleasurable wave of warmth and instinctive certainty pass through him. He sighs and pants, and then looks back up at her.
“How are you going to help me?” He asks her.
She takes another step closer to Kevin and notices that from the moment he began scratching his chest, the more he seemed to change right before her eyes. His ears had more of a curl to them now. And his nose and mouth looked darker and a bit rubbery. The thick growth of brown body hair had also changed, it looked thicker and more like a fur coat. Seeing those changes happening to her friend much to Kim’s surprise no longer seems to freak her out. Instead, she feels like she wants to continue reassuring him that everything will be okay. She comes closer to him and then squats down besides his now furry body. She smiles. Kevin finds himself smiling right back at her. He then pants a bit, letting his tongue loll out a bit from his mouth, which now sports a cleft upper lip.
“Like this.” She just tells him with a smile.
Ignoring an itch creeping up between her shoulder blades, she reaches out to Kevin’s back and begins to stroke her hand across its furry, muscular smoothness.
