Katie rubbed her eyes as she looked at the adult versions of themselves. “I...I don’t get it,” she whispered. “I mean if your saying I’m a teenage version of Kat and your a teenage version of Kel, who was originally Kats mom, then how come my mom looked nothing like either of you!?”
“I don’t know,” Kel answered, still confused. “I don’t get any of this to be honest. I mean yeah I look like Kellie but I have my own parents. I mean am I just another version of her cause that really makes my relationship with Kat over here kinda weird.”
“Kel your not me,” Kellie said quickly, noticing the forlorn look on her daughters face. “Yeah, I was Kellie O’Toole. You though are Kellie Carlson, the daughter of Lee and Maggie Carlson. The reason you look like me is because of the magic I used.”
“Your still confusing me,” Kel answered.
“Okay I’ll try to explain,” Kellie sighed. “You see a bit of me was left in that reality. Your mom was pregnant with you at the time. The part that was left it printed on to you, because.....well, Katie needed someone. This is gonna sound weird but you two were kind of destined to be together as friends...and...well...lovers.”
Kel now stared at her fiancé, her head was spinning at this point from what she had heard. “So I never had a choice in life,” she mumbled. “My whole life was decided before I was even born.”
“No,” Kellie exclaimed. “Kel, you might look like me but your also very different too. You were more comfortable being gay than I ever was. No one could of anticipated that your best friend would feel the same way about you that you do about her. The magic may have introduced you two to each other but you were the ones that built your relationship. You decided your fate, not the magic.”
Kel paused as she looked at Kat. She could see the nervous look on her face and the fear in her eyes. Kel realized Kat was worried Kel would leave her. “Hey,” she whispered. “You gonna be okay?”
Kat nodded causing her fiancé to frown. “You’ve got a horrible poker face hon,” she smirked.
Kel now took Kats hand squeezing it tightly. “Hey listen to me,” she soothed. “This...this is a whole new level of weird for us but I still love you. I’ve loved you since the first time I saw you. Just because the magic may have introduced us to each other doesn’t change the fact that I will now and forever love you.”
Kat get a nervous chuckle as Kel leaned in, giving her a gentle kiss. “So,” she sighed. “I may never understand all of this reality Alteration magic but it doesn’t change anything between me and Kat. That being said, Katie. You wouldn’t happen to have a picture of your mom would you?”
Katie nodded as now began digging through her purse. Slowly she now produced an old picture of her parents. The group gawked as they saw a man and woman standing with a 2 year old Katie and Lisa.
“Those are my folks,” Katie stated. “My dad, David, died of cancer when I was 4. My mom here, her name was Lynne. She died in a car accident when me and Lisa were 10. Since then we’ve been living with my moms sister Ann.”
Kel And Kat gaped at the photo. They had expected to see another version of Kellie, instead they were surprised by wha they saw. “Kat,” Kel whispered. “That....that looks like...”
“My grandparents,” Kat finished.
The four now sat in stunned silence as they gazed at the old photo. No one knew what to say and where to go from here.
