"Carter?" Carter started as he heard his mom calling as she walked up the stairs.
"Uh...yeah, mom!" Carter yelled back, suddenly realizing the situation he was in. A strange girl with blue hair was standing in his room and he had no way to explain who she was, even if he could understand who - or what - she was. This wouldn't look good.
"Quick, hide!" Carter hissed at Quinn, who cocked her head for a moment. Carter, who assumed Quinn would vanish just as mysteriously as she appeared, was dumbfounded when she suddenly dived for his closet, closing the door behind her.
"Honey, dinner will be ready in a few minutes," Carter's mother stated as she opened the door to his room. Carter, still staring at the closed closet, jumped in surprise, then turned.
"S-sure...yeah, mom," Carter stuttered. His mom squinted at him.
"Are you feeling okay, sweetie?" his mom asked, slightly concerned.
"No, mom, I'm totally fine," Carter responded a bit to quickly. Luckily, his mom saw nothing amiss, and closed the door behind her as she went to track down his siblings. Worn out, Carter slid to the ground.
"You can come out now," Carter finally said to Quinn, who nonchalantly strode out of the closet at his request. "Why didn't you just...I dunno, disappear the way you came in?"
"Is this not the most popular method for a girl to hide when in a boy's room?" Quinn responded matter-of-factly. "I believe the second most popular was hiding under the bed?" Carter shook his head in disbelief, then decided that he had better deal with the first problem before dinner.
"Look, you said you can change the way people think, right? If you do that, can you change it back to the way it was originally if I want?" At Quinn's nod, Carter continued. "Look, if my parents see you, they're going to wonder who you are and I have no idea how to explain this...I don't even know exactly what you are. So, for now, you need to pretend to be, and make my parents think you are..."
