As soon as Tom made it to his car, he got in and pulled out his phone. He quickly dialed Alice's number before holding the phone up to his ear. The phone rang for a few seconds before Alice picked up her phone.
"Hi Tom," she said into the phone. "How was your day at work?"
"I'll have to tell you about it later," Tom said quickly. "Something's happened."
"Oh God, are you hurt?!" Alice asked quickly. Tom could sense the genuine concern and fear in her voice. He hated hearing her worry like this.
"No no, I'm fine," he said quickly, trying to calm her down. "I just had a run in with a pair of werewolves from Moon Lake."
"It's about the reveal, isn't it?" Alice asked, sensing where this was going. "Well, what did they want?"
Tom sighed and laid back in the car seat. "They're not so keen on the idea of finally putting an end to the were secret," he explained. "They have their minds set on the fact that humanity isn't ready to learn about weres, and they claim that it never will be. But honestly, with the way that technology is headed, it's only a matter of time before a were is caught transforming on camera or a doctor discovers some kind of gene that causes a were's transformation."
"I agree, but what does this have to do with the two weres you ran into?" Alice asked.
"Right, sorry," Tom said, quickly stopping himself from going on a long speech about why weres can't stay hidden forever. "These two men look like they mean business, and that concerns me quite a bit, but my main concern is making sure that you're safe if something goes wrong. "
"So what do you need me to do?" Alice asked.
"I need you to go to Moon Lake and stay with your parents," Tom said. "It'll only be for the week until I can find something more permanent for us. Maybe if there's any small houses for sale, we could look and see if there's any we like in the event that we decide to move there."
The other end was silent for a few seconds. Tom was starting to get worried until Alice said, "Alright, I'll start packing our things and make sure my parents know that we're on our way. The told me that they turned my old bedroom into a guest room, so I know we'll have a place to sleep there."
Tom breathed an audible sigh of relief. "Thank you for being so understanding," he said. "I'll be home in a few minutes."
"I'll see you then," Alice responded. "I love you."
"I love you too," Tom said before hanging up. He put his phone down in the cup holder to the right of him and started up his car.
