After standing there thinking, Rick had this odd thought... The camera could cause things to suddenly die if the camera willed it... But what about the other way around? If this warlock was the only way he was going to find a way to undo what had been done, then it was worth a try; especially if they were grateful to be brought back from the dead.
He sighed and pointed the camera at the grave, a bright light shining on the tombstone as the photo popped out. It was a tense moment, as he waited for the photo to develop, and soon, the image became clear...
… A black cat stood in the centre of an empty plot of land, devoid of a tombstone.
With a flash, the image and reality swapped places, and an unfazed cat stood where the grave once was.
"Well, I wasn't exactly expecting this to happen," the cat spoke, "I guess you're the latest unlucky victims of our last project."
Rick looked at the talking cat and nodded. "...And you must be the warlock Halton Lackrow."
The cat nodded and checked over its own body. "A small part of him at least, you really think a warlock would stay in his own body when it began to fail?" the cat gave a look somewhere between amusement and disappointment as it focused at its hindquarters. "Of course the camera would make me a girl cat."
"Is there any way to get my girlfriend back to normal?" Rick asked.
The cat gave Rick a sideways glance. "Perhaps, but I can hardly do it myself... Magic is powered partly by energy produced by the soul, and partly by the reality warping properties of the realms outside of this reality... I can help you with the latter, less so the former, that's going to be something you'd have to build up on your own."
Rick sighed. "I guess you'll have to teach me then," he said, "is there anything I'd have to do in return?"
The cat perked its head to the side. "Well, I certainly can't do it for free can I... But the only thing I feel I desire is to see you spread chaos, and maybe feed me... So how about this... Take photos of people with that camera in trade for each lesson I teach you. Feel free to write them down even if you wish."
Rick looked at the camera, a bit anxious at the thought of using it, but he turned to Emily, still a baby and still frightened sitting in his arms, and saw her nod. "Alright... Sounds about as good a deal as I'm going to get."
The cat smiled. "Good... Just to be sure though, don't expect your first lesson to go straight to how to make your girlfriend an adult again. Not that I could teach you that without teaching you other things first anyways, but I also don't see much reason to hurry towards you having no reason to keep me around."
"That's still better than nothing," Rick said.
The cat nodded. "Though considering you've already used the camera on her and me, I should probably give you the first lesson for free once we get back."
The three of them piled back into the car and headed back, eager to begin the first lesson...
