They were real.
I looked at Mary and she looked back at me, smiling. Now I knew for sure. Mary had the medallion and she'd changed me. She knew how to use it.
I waited for an opportunity to talk to Mary about it, but she got dropped off at practice before I had an opportunity. I suffered through shopping with Mom.
When I got home I decided that I'd search Mary's room and take it back. She would be gone for at least another couple of hours.
I spent the next two hours searching her room from top to bottom. By the time I was done I was positive the medallion wasn't in her room. Mary had hidden it somewhere else. It could be anywhere. It could even be in her locker at school. If it was, there was no way I could get it.
