“I don’t believe you”
The girl only lifts her eyebrow “You don’t need to believe, only to eat. A morsel and you will be free to leave, after all the poor girl will need shortly a strong and clever man to find her.”
“Very well then” A quick scan of the table show you a vast array of dishes, some with meat and some without, while your hostess sip calmly from her goblet. You only need a bite so you snatch a simple cookie from one of the trays and sample it with flaunt.
“Can I go now?” She can clearly hear the impatience in your tone but smiles indulgently “This was a waste of time” You stand up and walk toward the door without looking back at the girl.
“Leaving so soon? Don’t you want to learn about your new home?”
You flinch as your stomach start to churn and turn to her angrily “What was in that biscuit? I want…” Words fail you when you notice that you lost several inches of height and are still shrinking as the woman before you hums pleased at this development.
“Fix this you crazy woman!” Your voice shift to a high pitched tone on the last word, the arms lose their fingers and sprout little feathers while the feet contort into orange tinted talons.
The clothes that only minutes before covered you now cover your new form and impede your movements, trapping the little sparrow. Even your last cries of help turned halfway into the scared chirping of a cornered bird as you try to disentangle from your position.
“Here, let me help this little critter” She cups her hands around your tiny form and lift you at eye level to show her amused smirk “Look here, a scared little sparrow in the end, where is your defiance now?” You cower before her massive form, so much that the woman pet your back with a finger gently to calm your fears “Don’t worry, we will take good care of you. Why, I have hundreds of visitors in my personal aviary alone, I would have preferred a peacock or a majestic hawk but you will do.” With the thumb and index finger she spread out one of your new wings while inspecting your feathers, unconcerned about your feeble attempts to break free “I would not do this if I were you, little bird. In the unlikely case you succeed to escape what would you do? You don’t even know how to fly, at best you will flail around like a newborn, surely the first cat will make a meal out of you” Wordlessly one of the attendants arrives with a bird cage and open the metal door, offering it to Circe, which place you inside chuckling amid your angry chirping and closes you inside permanently.
“Sam, bring our new acquisition to the aviary and place him among his kind, I have finished with him. Julie bring in the next guest. Farewell little birdy, have fun with the others”
