"I am afraid your Mom has been hurt. Someone carjacked her car at the mall, " said the principal.
I stood up.
"Is she okay?"
The principal put his hands up.
"She's going to be fine. Ms. Reynolds is going to drive you to the hospital."
Ms. Reynolds was the student counselor. She was nice, but really old.
Mary hung up the phone and grabbed her books.
"Mike, I talked to mom. She's got a bad cut on her head and she has a concussion, so they're gonna keep her overnight." She turned to Ms. Reynolds. "Ok, are we ready to go?"
"Yes dear," Ms. Reynolds said.
We left, heading for the hospital. When we got there, we saw Mom talking to the police. When she was done, they let us go in.
"Hi kids," Mom said from the bed.
"Hi," we both said back in unison. Mary added, "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm okay," Mom answered, not looking that okay with the big bandage on her head. "The police say that there's a ring of carjackers stealing a bunch of cars and my description sounds similar to the others. They think they're professionals and that none of the cars have been recovered yet. They think the cars are probably long gone. Don't worry though - we had full coverage, so we'll get another one."
The doctor chose that moment to come in to examine her, so he shooed us out. We went to the waiting room.
"Hey sis," I said after we sat down.
"Yeah," Mary answered.
"Are you still using the medallion to change me?"
