I ran my fingers under the words...this time it didn't burn them, though I could still feel the heat radiating from the necklace. I didn't ask about it...it wasn't time for it, not yet. This was an early investigation.
It read:
The heart always beats.
It asks to live.
It trusts that it will be repaid.
It will bring you luck if you will pay it's price.
It will only sell to one who buys
Ten coin for every day
Until it claims some form of life.
I read it twice, then looked up at Catherine.
"Harry said the price I could sell it for would go down ten cents every day I had it."
She was quiet, as if she were in a church. A person's first encounter with teh supernatural will do that. But then she started talking again...all I could do was sit back and listen.
"That's silly, of course, I had it evaluated and the evaluator nearly had a heart attack. One hundred Million Dollars at today's rates, and that's sweet. He suggested I put it up for auction immedately, and I would...but..."
She blushed.
"Every time I want to sell it, I can't pick it up. I can't touch it, and no-one else can either."
I leaned back. Ten coin every day..."How much did Harry charge you?"
"Fifteen dollars."
Until it claims some sort of life...meaning 150 days.
Unless...
"How long have you had it?"
...she was quiet.
"Catherine...if you want my help..."
"I'll sell it to you for fifty cents." She said.
