“Okay,” Gabriela whispered, crinkling her nose. “Let’s just say for a moment I believe you. Why would someone do this? And how do we change back?”
Edwin feigned innocence, shrugging, as he looked at the regressed teacher. “No clue on both accounts,” he said. “I was hoping you might have a theory.”
Gabriela lowered her head as she began kicking at the dirt on the ground. “I don’t know,” she groaned. “I mean I haven’t done anything to anyone. I live alone. Teaching has been my whole life.”
Edwin watched as Gabriela began to sniff, her eyes beginning to well up with tears. Although Edwin felt some remorse for the girl he did not want to reveal his secret. Doing so would only incur the girls wrath. “Hey Gabriela don’t cry,” he soothed. “We can figure this out okay. I need you to think though. Who besides me was new this year?”
Gabriela rubbed her chin thoughtfully as she tried to remember how many new students had entered the school district this year. “Well aside from you there was Kira,” she answered. “Her family moved in shortly after the start of the school year. Why? Do you think it could be her?”
Edwin shrugged, he already knew who was responsible but if another suspect could be made it would draw attention away from himself. “I don’t know maybe,” he mumbled. “Considering everyone’s minds have been affected it’s a definite possibility. Maybe we should go talk with her.”
Gabriela nodded as she now stride forward. The girl was determined to to regain her adulthood, no matter the cost. For Edwin though it was part of a game. As he glanced at the young girl he couldn’t help but find her to be quite cute. “Makes me wonder what she looked like in high school,” he thought impishly. “Who knows, maybe we end up stuck at 16 when this is all said and done. For now though I need to play along.”
Hurrying behind the girl Edwin now waited for to see how Gabriela would confront Kira.
