James didn't believe in any of this mumbo jumbo, but he isn't going to tempt fate with animal or object transformations. As silly as it sounded every time he told himself to just pick a spell and do it a little voice in the back of his head told him not to... The mental chapter had some interesting mind reading, telepathy, possession, memory sharing/reliving/stealing spells. But again, Reading everyone's mind can be a curse if you don't get the hang of controlling it.
After several minutes of this James reached the body modification chapter. He passed on the obesity spell and he skipped right over the warts and boils sub-chapter. "Outside looks like inside spell..."
Nicola was relentless and despite how much James liked her, she can get on someones nerves... "If you really were a wizard I would have so owned you by now!" she mused...
James sighed, "Ugh, no..." He was trying hard to find a nice spell whose effects she would enjoy, because if any place had real magic it was this creepy place. On top of that, for some weird reason reading this book seemed to be taxing on the eyes, as though his brain was deciphering a different language, but it looked like plain English to him...
"Id Bop you on the nose and run circles around you! I'd tie you in knots with your own robe. Id wrestle your magic stick away and shove it up your.." Nicola prattled on, feeling simultaneously uncomfortable with the situation and bored of watching James read.
James was quickly growing irritated with Nicola's refusal to let him focus for any time at all. "NO, You would not, because if I was a wizard who was determined to spell you I would have you bound and gagged so I could concentrate! Please... shut... up..."
James turned bright red with embarrassment that he had lost his temper, continued reading and avoided eye contact. Nicola chortled, "Okay..." but remained silent after that, Meredith stiffed a laugh and watched with earnest curiosity...
James finally fell across a spell he was satisfied with...
