"I think we should do a practice run," said Kellie, "I might not make to Ann and Lisa the first time. So we should see how far I can go before we make any further plans."
"You know, it might be easier to just bring Aunt Ann and my mom here," said Gloria.
"It would seem that way," said Merlin, "Except that your mother is quite pregnant and traveling between timelines tends to be very disagreeable for pregnant women."
"And considering it's me she's carrying, I'm not wanting to risk it," said Lynne.
"So we're just going to have to practice until I can get to them," said Kellie.
==========
A short time later, Merlin had a shimmering portal set up and had given Kellie a lifeline to get back. An enchanted belt she was wearing would protect her for an extended while and Merlin could use it to pull her back if she's in trouble.
"So, what exactly would going to the other reality do to her?" asked Katie with concern.
"Well, there are a few likely possibilities," said Merlin, "There's a chance that when she gets there, she won't be able to touch anything and people would only be able to barely see and hear her."
"Like a ghost?" asked Gloria.
"Yes, but not dead," said Merlin, "There's also a chance that the other's reality... let's say 'immune system' for lack of a better term, will try to rewrite her into a different person when she enters."
"Sorta like what Mare Elise can do with her ring," said Katie.
"Yes, though the belt should protect her from becoming an animal, plant, or inanimate object as well as keep her memories intact long enough for her to be able to return in time," said Merlin.
"I could become another person mentally?" asked Kellie with concern.
"Yes, but I'll be able to pull you back and we can fix you here," said Merlin, "But the most likely thing to happen is that Kellie will become weaker the longer she remains in the other reality. It would take repeated exposure for her to build up enough strength to go there for long periods. And she would be vulnerable if Morgan le Fay attacks her. But the belt will immediately bring her back if she's in peril."
"Maybe we should just tell my mom and Aunt Ann about Kellie ourselves," said Lynne.
"No, it has to be me," said Kellie, "I have to face the mess I've made with them and they're not as likely to believe you as me." With that, she walked up to the portal. She gave one worried look towards her father though.
"The portal can stay open for some time," said Merlin, "Just jump back if you need to and I'll bring you back if you can't." Kellie nodded before going through the portal.
