Cassandra began to panic when she could find the ring, having already tore apart her bedroom looking for the magical trinket but coming up empty.
She then silently bemoaned its lost as there was a lot of things she wanted to wish for and now those wishes will never come true.
“Ugh, how could I have been so stupid to just leave it lying out in the open like that” she chastised herself for being so dumb.
“Anyone could have come in here and taken it.”
Realizing what she just said Cassandra immediately had an idea of who could have possibly taken it.
Running out of her room and down the hall she ran right into her mother who had just finished vacuuming the living room and was putting the vacuum cleaner away in the closet. Cassandra automatically spied the ring on her finger confirming her suspicions that she had took it. Her mom had a bad habit of borrowing her jewelry without asking her permission first.
“Mom, you’re wearing my ring.”
“Oh yeah, I saw it on your dresser and thought it looked pretty so I put it on” her mom said before adding, “Doesn’t it look good on me?”
“Sure, um if you don’t mind mom can I please have it back?” Cassandra asked trying to hide the sense of urgency in her voice.
She wanted her mother to remove the ring as soon as possible on the off chance she made a wish by accident and discovered its powers.
“Of course honey, just gimme a second.”
Her mom slowly reached down to remove the ring from her finger, taking forever to do so and continuing to talk at the same time.
“You know I noticed there was an inscription written on the inside that said “Make a wish”, which was a weird thing to have engraved don’t you think?”
Cassandra had a bad feeling about where this conversation of theirs was heading.
“Although if I could have any wish I wanted…
“No, mom don’t!” Cassandra shouted but it was too late.
“I’d wish…”
