The two twins were delivered to an orphanage. There they spent the next month, hoping that someone might have found the camera. Eventually, a lovely young asian couple adopted the girls. By the end of day one, both babies were determined to change back. But as time went on, and days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months, and months to years, hope and memories faded. Their little brains were learning speech again, and a lot of their memories faded. Anything that was left was slowly repressed as the years went on. By age 5, their old life was nothing more then a fantasy. By year 10, they never even thought about it.
Rebecca Huang was getting ready for her big date. She was nervous but super excited. It was the day after her 15th birthday and she had a date with Brian Smith, the hottest guy on the football team. She checked herself over and thought she looked good. Good makeup, curly red hair styled, boobs showing cleavage. She felt great. She was even wearing a Chinese dress that looked stunning on her. People always were surprised by her last name. She loved embracing her parent's culture, even if they were adopted.
But in her haste she had time to spare. She went to the attic where her sister was digging through some old junk. Betty was never as hot as Rebecca, but Becca never gave her shit for it. They loved each other and that's what counted. Betty's red hair was a curly bun and she was wearing a comfy sweatshirt that covered her decent boobs. Becca always said Betty's butt was best, and it was. Betty tried to ignore Becca's nonsense and focused on looking. She stopped dead in her tracks.
"Hey Becca. Does this. Does this thing look familiar to you?" She asked, as she held up the camera. Becca looked it over. Something was ringing a bell but she couldn't quite place it. "Yeah like, I think I know it. Why what's the big deal? It's just one of mom and dad's old junk." Becca responded.
Betty felt off so she took the camera downstairs to their adoptive parents Lu Huang and Chu Huang. They were always loving to the girls and it broke their hearts when they found out what adopted meant and how race worked. Betty showed them the camera and asked about it when they got it.
"Oh that old thing," their dad said. "I got it at junkyard long time ago. 5 or 6 years." Betty seemed to perk up at this. She thanked them, gave them a kiss, and then brought Becca into the other room.
"Becca we were different once. This is our second life. This camera changed us long ago, and we forgot who we were. I thought it was just some dumb game from when we were 6 or something but seeing this now and knowing that dad didn't get it till we were like 11, proves it to me."
Becca wanted to call her sister crazy, but deep down she knew that Betty was right. Becca saw a flash of her old self in a mirror and then pushed it down. She also remembered the camera, what it did, and how it worked. "Okay Betty, I believe you, but so what. If I remember anything, it's that that thing is random. If we try to change back, our lives could be ruined. Are you willing to take that risk?"
"Yes I am." Betty said with confidence.
"Well I'm not. I like my life, and I want to stay as far away from that as possible. See you later Betty." She said trying not to cry. Betty wanted to follow her but she wanted to be normal again more. She took a sad selfie, and in a flash, reality changed. Unfortunately awareness had changed. Only the user of the camera would remember the changes now. Becca would remember the camera, but think they never used it. All traces of Rick and Emily were gone from her mind. They only existed in Betty's mind now. Betty's selfie was done.
Betty was now...
