Karen stumbled her way out of her bedroom and headed towards the kitchen. Her hair was a bit of a mess as she scratched her back. She then opened the fridge, got some milk, and then got a bowl and cereal. She poured the cereal and milk into the bowl before sitting down at the table to eat.
Moe returned to his bedroom to get dressed for the day while Nichole arched an eyebrow. "Rough night?" she asked.
"Ugh," was all a reply Karen could make before taking a bite of cereal. "I had the weirdest dream last night," Karen said as she took another bite. Nichole put her full attention on Karen as she explained. "I dreamt that I was hunting in the forest with Peter, and that I was some were...I can't remember which," Karen left out some of the more explicit details of her dream. Still, Nichole's eyebrows shot up when she heard this. It was some coincidence that she and Karen had dreams about being weres on the same night, right?
"What do you remember, exactly?" Nichole asked.
"Well," Karen paused as she munched on some of her cereal, "Just that I was changed, I had some great night vision, and that Peter and I were hunting...and eating deer. I remember I was a feline of some kind, but I can't remember which."
"I...see," Nichole remembered her dream about her being a werefox, and she took a moment to shake her head. It was all just a coincidence. It couldn't be anything else. Still, this might be something that she should ask Francine about.
Karen noticed that her mother was a bit shaken and asked, "Something wrong, mom? You don't look good."
"Oh, uh," Nichole responded before shaking her head, "It's, uh, nothing, really." Fortunately for Nichole, the phone rang, which she picked up. "Hello?" she asked.
"Hi, is this Karen or Nichole Charleston?" the voice over the phone asked.
"This is Nichole. May I ask who's calling?"
"Hi, Nichole, my name is Ms. Brooks, and I'm a counselor at Moon Lake High. We just got your daughter's school records, and there are a few things we need to discuss before we can enroll Karen in to any classes. Would you have any time this afternoon, say around 1?"
Nichole took a deep breath and guessed what the issue was. It had been a year since they've been on the run from the Gamboni's, and in that time, they really haven't had a stable place to keep Karen in school for long. "One o'clock this afternoon?" she asked, pausing to see if there was anything else going on that afternoon. "Yes, that would be fine."
"Great," answered Ms. Brooks. "Will Karen be able to join us?"
Nichole glanced over at Karen munching on her cereal. "I suppose so."
"That'd be great. So, I'll see both you and Karen at one then?"
"Yes, that'll be fine," Nichole replied before saying her goodbyes and hanging up.
"Who was that, mom?" Karen asked.
"That was the high school counselor. Ms. Brooks, I believe. She needs to discuss a few things with us before you can go to school."
Karen sighed and asked, "Is there anyway to skip it?"
Nichole shook her head and said, "Not if you want to keep a normal life here at Moon Lake."
It was at that point when Moe walked out of his bedroom fully dressed in his business suit. Karen looked over and whistled and said, "Looking nice, dad."
Moe smirked as he made his way out the door. "I'm going to be meeting with that realtor and the local bank. Stay safe you two."
Nichole waved goodbye as her husband walked out the door.
