Daniel, only just turned 19, walked along the hall, carefully checking the numbers on the doors of each room. Eventually, he stopped at one.
"112," he said aloud. "I guess this is it." Daniel could hear voices from inside the room. Probably my room mates, he thought. He gripped the brass know on the door, turned it, and pushed.
All the talking inside stopped. Two young men were inside, who didn't look much older than 17.
"Hi, I'm Daniel," said Daniel nervously. "I was told to come to room 112?"
"Oh, you must be the new kid," said the guy on Daniel's left. "Nice to meet you. I'm Jack, and this here is Bill."
Daniel stared around. The room was bigger than it had looked from outside, and there were quite a few bed lying around the place. "Are you the only people in this room?"
"No," said Bill, "there are plenty more. Jack and I just decided to come in and talk. So, what are you studying and the college?"
"Magic," said Daniel. Daniel had applied for the college, thinking that a college of magic was all a bit of a joke. He had been quite suprised when his application was accepted. "But that isn't real, is it? Just some trick to get people to come to the college, right?"
Bill smiled. "No, they really do teach magic here. I know that, 'cause Jack's studying it too, and he can actually do some magic."
Daniel looked at Bill and Jack, wondering if they were making fun of him.
Bill stood up. "I need to get going now," he said. "I need to study. I'm doing physics at the college." And with that, he left the room, closing the door behind him.
Jack looked at Daniel. "I can see you don't believe in magic. Let me change your mind. I needed to test this spell, anyway."
Daniel wondered if, perhaps, magic really did exist. "What are you going to do?" he asked.
Jack said, "I need a human subject just to make sure I've got this spell right." Jack smiled. Daniel wouldn't be happy when he found out what the spell did...
