Susan wondered what was going on with her daughter. She was 18 but before she took this camera away from her she had been acting like a gigantic brat. She looked the camera over but couldn't see anything wrong with it. It just looked like a really old camera. She aimed it towards her face as she glanced inside the lens. On accident, she snapped a photo of herself, and reality altered completely.
Susan transformed into a hairbrush. The brushes handle was the color of Susan's skin, and the bristle's resembled Susan's hair, but beyond that it was an ordinary brush. Reality continued to alter as it had to make sure things made sense. Paul, Jake's father, never met Susan as she never existed as a human. Instead on the night they met, Paul met Maria, a young Latina cleaning lady trying to make her way in America.
The two fell in love and lived a happy life in America. Maria, unfortunately, was infertile, so Lizzy and Jane were never born. The couple settled in the same home where they adopted a small poodle named Duke. They also adopted a black daughter they named Juanita. The family lived happily together.
Maria had come home from shopping and was greeted by her cute poodle Duke. She gave the poodle a scratch and he ran off. Mario set her bag down on the table and saw something odd on the counter. Next to the new hairbrush she had bought was an old polaroid camera. She examined it but it seemed just like an old camera. She wondered if Paul had bought it, or Juanita.
