"I've set up the program right here. I'll look like Mitzi, but you'll be able to tell us apart. I'll be fertile--I want to have a litter--but after one you can have me fixed. I'll be keeping a lot of my intelligence, so I'll be smarter than most dogs, although I don't know how much language I'll retain."
"Joanie, this is crazy."
"No, it isn't. Since Mom and Dad passed on there's been nothing to keep me here. I've really had it with people anyway--nothing personal, but dogs are so much better."
Sue got up and gave Joanie a hug. "It's your life and your decision. I'd be honored to be your" Owner didn't sound right, Sue thought. "I'll be honored to have you as my canine companion, Joanie. Oh--what do you want me to call you?"
"Not Joanie. I want to start a new life. Call me Marlene."
Joanie took of her shoes and her clothes. She turned the emitter on herself and hit the enter key, twice to save the change. She shrank, fell on all fours. Her face lengthed to form a muzzle, claws came from the hands and feet, hair sprouted from her body, her breasts shrank to nipples, she was a dog.
"Hi, Marlene." said Sue. Marlene's tail was wagging like crazy.
