Since he could remember, even as a little kid, Kyle had a secret. He was gay. since it was 1991 and he was in college now, he had more freedom, but gays weren't accepted like they would be in the future - there was no such thing as gay marraige, and if you came out, you could pretty much count on being beaten to a pulp by somebody.
Kyle remembered aboug 10 years before, seeing a guy that worked as a gas station attendant - he was the usual sort, scruffy, stubble, long hair... and exactly the sort of guy that turned Kyle on and who he wanted to be. But since this switching device apparently had powerful options, Kyle decided to really put it to the test. He'd swap bodies with the shaggy gas station attendant, would do a delicate balance of taking aspects of the guy's life over while keeping aspects of his own life, and the real kicker was he would live in a world where there were still gas station attendants and at the same time gay guys were completely accepted, and throw in the partial reshaping into an inanimate to make his fantasy complete.
Kyle spent not only hours but a few days on this strange and powerful device, getting to know all the settings and carefully and thoughtfully adjusting each setting for maximum fulfillment of his desires. When finally it came time and he felt as though he had thought of everything, he waited til he was the only one in the apartment, and pressed the swap button...
