The boys sat, once again their original races and selves, each of them thinking about their week-long experiences.
"I never want to do that again."
"Me either. I can't believe how different people treated us."
"Are you kidding? It was great, I could do anything I wanted, and everyone was so afraid I'd accuse them of prejudice that I got away with all of it!"
"Well, you had a different experience than I did. Everyone looked at me different. They made me all feel like I did something wrong just becuase of the color of my skin - that's pretty bad."
"Yeah, me too. It was horrible."
"Yeah but did you hear how those other guys used the n-word? They used it even more around the white jocks, almost as if they were flaunting it, daring those jocks to use it."
"I don't understand why they don't want anyone else using it but they use it themselves. I mean, if it's such a horrible word and a horrible thing to be called, why were some of them always calling one another that word?"
"I know, right? Its like the worse word in the world and they say it to each other all the time. It doesn't make sense at all."
"Its like if you're black and you say it, you're bad-ass, but if anyone else says it they're just bad. Like the f-word with gays or the b-word with girls. They call each other by those words, but if anyone else says it, they are bad."
Shrug. "I dunno. It doesn't make sense. Its like a double standard - they can insult one another with the lowest form of language but if anyone else does, then its bad. I don't know why it's not considered bad when they do it to each other, it seems like it should be. It seems like they're disrespecting each other.
