Anna looked at her watch and the bored child in front of her and wondered what to do next. She had been babysitting for less than an hour with nearly a whole weekend still ahead of her and couldn't let Amelia watch cartoons the whole time.
Anna began slightly regretting the favour she had agreed to do for her friends. They had needed some alone time and trusted few people with their daughter. While Amelia could be slightly bratty and surly she had always bonded well enough with Anna in the past. But today it was clear she was in no mood to play nice.
"Ok, time to turn the TV off for a while I think" Anna announced.
She was a tall, attractive, statuesque woman of around forty, though she looked younger.
"But there's nothing else to do" Amelia pouted.
"We could go for a walk" Anna suggested.
"It's cold out" Amelia protested "Can't I just watch some more cartoons?"
"Hang on, I have a better idea!" Anna replied as enthusiastically as she could "How about you put on a magic show?"
"With what?" the youngsters curiosity had been piqued.
Luckily Anna was prepared. She knew Amelia loved magic and had bought a magic kit that looked perfect for a child in a shop she had driven past on the way over. It had been a bit of a strange place, the owner had creeped her out a bit and given her some spiel about using her purchase with caution. On opening the box she couldn't imagine why, it seemed to contain all the usual cliches, a book, some cards, what looked like some potoons and various other trinkets, including a wand which Amelia immediately grabbed.
"You can be my assistant!" Amelia grinned as she pointed the wand at Anna.
"Ok" Anna smiled, pleased her gift had gone down so well "What are you going to do to me?"
