Before they could think, the group heard the sound of bare feet slapping against stone echoing from the tunnel they’d just come from. The sound also came out of a tunnel they hadn’t noticed at the far end of the banquet table, likely being too distracted by the glorious food to notice.
“Ready up,” Nicolai said, flashing a worried glance at Ryan.
Nicolai wondered if the goblin would burst. Sure, it was his fault he’d ended up a large blueberry of a goblin. But even so, Ryan was still the knight’s ally and he needed to help him. But as the goblin horde ran into view, waving their small weapons, Nicolai found himself unable to get to the table in time!
“HeMMph!”
Ryan tried to call out once more, but a large apple was stuck in his mouth by a cheeky looking goblin, cackling as he looked over the party of now three.
“Heehee, charge! Charge! We has one!"
The goblin, clearly some kind of leader despite looking no different than any of the other goblins, called out loudly. A cheer rang through the horde.
As Nicolai hacked and slashed, dispatching goblins like they were nothing, he was forced to watch helplessly as several goblins rose from the horde to push Ryan’s berry body down the table. He knocked food off and left a trail of blue slime before he bounced off the end of the table with an audible squishing noise and was rolled out of sight down the far tunnel.
“Argh! I’m gonna kill him!” Nicolai growled.
He made a wide sweeping attack, defeating a swathe of the goblins. With no leader and seeing an attack like that, the goblins turned and fled, cowering and whimpering all the way.
