Jon usually was ahead in his life. There was never a day where he didn’t try to think of all the possibilities of most of his actions. He taught himself how to plan ahead and be prepared for his adult life as a young kid, so he never really had fun.
If you ask his parents about it, you can see why Jon did it. They wanted him to be this and that but he never did, they called him ”The Embarrassment” when he's not around. You'd think these are some tough Asian parents, but they're actually just white. Looks like your average family of a blond mother, a brown haired father, and a brown haired son.
In college, Jon interacted with a man who forced him to join his friend group. That man was named Mark. Mark noticed that Jon needed to chill every now and then, but that never stopped Jon. Mark did manage to get Jon to make some friends though.

He knew his parents wouldn't accept him unless he had done something big and never seen before. So his whole life he prepared to cure cancer. Every day in college he researched all he could and managed to figure out something big enough to skip his valedictorian speech. Whatever it was, he never succeeded. It somehow ended up as a new recipe for kool-aid.
Jon never stopped trying. He stayed with his friends and managed to have a normal life while also doing his research. Until one day, his girlfriend got a phone call from the lab, and it wasn't Jon
