Rhonda's human form was that of a young Hispanic woman. Ethel, who had reverted to her human form as well, invited her to stay overnight at her house, as Rhonda's house was over twenty miles away. Rhonda happily accepted. The two talked about how they had become werepegasi. Rhonda had heard of the vials, but her own story was different.
"I was a servant to a wizard, just cleaning up the place and doing some cooking. He decided that he wanted to travel in a flying coach drawn by pegasi, so he enchanted some of us to be werepegasi--we could draw the coach when were pegasi and continue working around the castle when were human."
"Wow, that sounds like hard work."
"It was, plus we had to keep doing the same work around the castle as humans."
"So what happened?"
"Well" Rhonda laughed "A funny thing happened. When he was using his new air coach, somehow the straps connecting the pegasus harnesses to the coach got all tangled up, and the coach got overturned and the wizard fell about 200 feet. Didn't survive, poor fellow. Ordinarily, he had a ring of flight to protect if that happened, but the werepegasus servant charged with laying out his rings had accidentally switched the flight ring with the ring of underwater breathing. So sad."
"What a bizarre and completely random accident!"
"But I was still a werepegasus, and that's how I've been living ever since! Being a female werepegasus is tough, because we're hardwired for submissiveness to males. That's why I'm so glad to have found you, since a male pegasus who is a female human tends to be nicer."
I'm glad you think that, Ethel thought, but I'm going to have to keep an eye on you.
