The group turned to see a blue-skinned berry goblin walking out from the tunnel Nicolai had just come from. He belched, rubbing his thick belly.
“They just finished juicing me! Feels weird!”
The goblin smiled happily.
“And she’s right behind me!”
The ‘she’ was spoken with a reverance Nicolai didn’t even know Ryan could possess.
Just who was ‘she?’
The monsterified adventurers seemed to know, even Marceline’s movements calming down, humongous wings folding against her titanic back.
Nicolai stepped towards the hole, ignoring the drippy goblin on one side and slowly rising slimeboy on the other. Footsteps echoed through the cavern. Nicolai could feel his heart pounding. If this wasn’t the only exit, he would’ve bolted by now. Something weird was going on, undeniably, and he didn’t want to end up like his comrades.
A soft voice arose from the hallway.
“Hello, Nicolai. Your friends have told me so much about you.”
“Who are you?” the knight asked.
His voice lacked confidence, so unlike him. His courage was failing him. He couldn’t run, he couldn’t attack. All he could do was wait. A wisp of flame blown by Marceline above briefly made his armour feel uncomfortably hot, as well as illuminating the cavern.
It was only a glimpse, but in the darkness he could see someone was walking closer...
