Your examinations are interrupted by the sound of a twig snapping behind you. You jerk around to look for the source of the sound to no avail, only to hear a rustle in the brush off to the left. You try your best to keep calm as you scan the darkness, though your newly enhanced hearing is definitely helping you pick up the movement of something stalking around in the direction you came from. Your efforts fail when you catch the light reflect off a pair of inhuman eyes peering back from roughly human height.
You're already running before you have a chance to think about what to do next. Off behind you, you can hear heavy footfalls giving chase. You dart back into the treeline, risking a glance behind as you do. Bounding towards you with the occasional help of its fore paws is the blue latex “cat” that you saw earlier. You're not sure what your chances will be in the thicker underbrush, but you're at a loss of options, so you continue your half-dash, half-scramble through the darkness.
The cat is closing the distance fast. You're making a decent pace as you manage to keep your trunk and ears under better control than in your more recent escape from danger, but this time your assailant is more fleet of foot. However, fortune reaches you just before the cat does, and you hear it thrash and growl as its feet are caught up in a shrub. The beast's momentum upends it, and it makes a wet splat as it hits the ground hard, seeming to partially liquefy from the impact.
You don't stop to watch as it struggles to reincorporate. You pant heavily as you put as much ground between the two of you as you can, and you make it a fair distance before your path is suddenly cut off by another familiar face. About fifteen meters in front of you stands the purple wolf from the beginning of your walk. You stumble to a halt and freeze as it eyes you. Time seems to slow down as your panicked mind races while the two of you wait in anticipation. You both move at once as you sprint off to your left with the wolf in close pursuit.
It doesn't take too long for one set of footfalls to be joined by a second off to your side as you realize that the cat has caught back up. Though they maintain a hard pace and often only just miss catching you, you somehow seem to be staying at the very edge of their reach. You continue on a decent way, frequently turning only to find your course cut off by one of the strange creatures as the other chases just behind you. You lose track of direction as you're continually forced to move in whatever path provides an opening.
It feels like you've been sprinting for hours even though it's only been a few minutes, and you can tell that you're starting to slow. Adrenaline is the only thing moving you and you're not sure how much time you have left. You barely manage to dodge a lunge as you swerve around a tree, thankfully hearing the wolf land ungracefully, when you suddenly find a light in view.
You're fairly sure there aren't supposed to be any buildings in this park, but nevertheless, you see a very large, very old house in front of you. It looks completely out of place in the middle of the forest, but a dim light shines from the windows. You've gained a bit on the beasts with your last maneuver and think you may be able to make it to the door with a few seconds to spare. However, this would likely mean subjecting the house's inhabitants to the danger you're currently facing as well as having to explain your own disturbing form.
