Rooborg SWAT Team

Carl asked, "So he's been programmed by the hacker and probably at his place.... can't we just get him out of there?" "Well", replied the programmer looking over Carl and the other police offers who have gathered, none of which were to athletic, "I don't think you'd stand a chance.... unless...". The programmer looked at his screen and started typing, "I could use the Virtualizer to change you and bring you back to the real world". "I want to go first", said Carl as he walked over to the device and after a few button presses by the programmer he vanished into a heap of clothes. To spare him the embarrassment he quickly applied the template and re-materialized him.

What materialized looked like a kangaroo. Long feet, muscular thighs and a head with long ears. However this kangaroo was no ordinary one. On Carl's back there was a helicopter rotor with 2 blades. It's shaft went straight into his back. On his long and thick mechanical tail there was a smaller rotor. He wore or had something which resembled a police uniform or armor plates. It was coloured in black, dark blue and gold and had a police shield over his left breast. The breast was separated from his abs by a bright blue band. The abs themselves had armour plates simulating a muscular structure. Below that there was appeared to be a hath at his crotch region. His feet seemed normal, for a kangaroo, but were augmented by some external armor. His furred arms ended in hands wearing fingerless gloves. He truely was a fusion of man and machine, or to be more precise, roo and machine.

The programmer walked to Carl and opened the badge at his chest and pressed some buttons, "Here, I've enabled your Virtualizer. It's a limited one which cannot restore." Pressing some more buttons he announced, "...and I've enabled you to have control over the speed of your mind, but use that sparingly, it can give you a severe headace on overuse". Carl nodded and asked, "So does that mean I have some sort of super speed?" "Well, your body here is already somewhat more agile and fast than your previous one, however with that capability you will be able to think though even split second decisions." One of Carl's colleagues got a ruler with a mark on it. Carl knew the drill and put this thumb and pointing finger near there mark, without touching the ruler. He also gave the mental command to speed up his thinking by a factor of 100. At first nothing seemed to happen, everyone still stood around. The clock at the wall seemed to have stopped as the second hand was only moving occasionally. Then he noticed his colleague relaxing his muscles. Slowly he could see the pressure to the fingers releasing. Carl saw that as his signal and pinched his fingers together, or at least he wanted to. They seemed to have a lag of about a second or two before they moved together to hold he ruler. Carl turned his mind to normal speed again and heard his colleague aweing in amazement. He turned back to the programmer, "I've been at 100 times speed, and my hand was lagging for perhaps one or two seconds." "That is to be expected, a couple of milliseconds is fast anyhow."

Impressed by the results his colleagues volunteered to undergo the same treatment. They were connected by radio links quickly yet just as easily as speaking. They hopped outside to the parking lot, taking a space each before bowing down forward and spinning up their rotors, making them take off. On their way to the hacker they discussed how to go forward and make a plan. They landed some blocks away as flying was much noisier than hopping. As they arrived they turned on their minds to 100x speed Carl kicked through the door with his new feet. Jumping felt almost like flying with his leap keeping him in the air for a minute or more. His colleagues followed him, each looking for another sector. While still in flight they found Jack and the Hacker and virtualized them before they could react. Even though the process only took a fraction of a second, they could see them dissolving and feel the data streaming in on their computers. As they landed they switched back to normal speed. "Wow, that was quick", was the common comment. They leaped out of the house again to fly back to the police station.

Back there they were met by the programmer. "Now could you transfer them to my laptop", he said as the two files were transferred and typed for a while, "Well he should be back to his old mind again, now I just need to materialize him again." He pressed some buttons, then repeated that sequence, then tried it again, "Bad news, I think the Virtualizer broke down. I'll order a new one, but it'll take a couple of days".
